Winston Churchill

EIE007 - Winston Churchill, 3rd July 2005

In July 2005, the Eerie Investigations team were invited to a site which was once used as the constituency offices of the UK's most famous politician and Prime Minister - Sir Winston Churchill.

The building in question is located in Epping, however the current landlord has asked us not to give out its full name or location, and is currently occupied by a business. The property itself is part of a large complex of adjoined buildings which were once the most prominent feature of this trading town.

The current occupiers moved into the building in early 2004, and for the eighteen month period since that time they have experienced a wide range of different types of paranormal phenomena. This has included sightings of shadowy figures, and an intermittent strong smell of cigar smoke.

When the owner of the business first experienced these phenomena, he was working alone in the office one evening. Initially he wrote it off as an over-active imagination, however the same phenomena recurred and were additionally experienced by members of his staff and his wife. When he mentioned this to the landlord, he became aware of the building's history and its famous former occupant - who was rarely seen without a lit cigar.

Other members of the owner's staff confirmed that their experiences matched his, and told Eerie of a constant feeling of unease and a sense of not being alone when they were working in the offices.

The business owner told us :-

"There are times when you are sitting working at your desk, and at the edge of your vision you think you catch something moving. You expect someone to walk into the office, but when you look around you realise there is no-one there."

The Eerie team performed a number of sweeps of the offices with our monitoring equipment, however nothing out of the ordinary was recorded during our time there. No visual, energy, or temperature anomolies were detected. Some audio tape recordings detected inexplicable noise bursts however we felt their was not sufficient evidence available to class these as paranormal in nature.

However, while filming a link segment one of the team members was alone in the company meeting room with a camera, recording footage of the hall areas. She was suddenly and inexplicably overwhelmed by a sense of being accompanied by someone else in the room, and panned the area with the camera - unfortunately the resulting imagery shows nothing conclusive.

We plan a repeat visit to this site later in 2005.
