EII012 - The Green Dragon - Background information

Believed to be over 450 years old, this ancient building is rumoured to retain the haunting of the ghost of a Cavalier, seen by at least three people during the 1970's, and always 'during the middle of the day'.

A previous licensee told Eerie's researcher that her daughter, daughter in law and her son have all experienced the phenomena in the building, and two local residents have also been mystified by certain incidents. She said that one afternoon her daughter was in an upstairs corridor preparing to enter the loft when she saw 'something glide past'. The following afternoon in exactly the same spot and about the same time, the girl noticed the figure of a man dressed like a cavalier, and standing in the doorway. She said "As I looked at him, he just 'faded away'". That was early in the 1970's but since then mysterious footsteps have been heard walking the empty passageway and on one occasion the daughter-in-law felt as if she had been pushed towards the stairway.

A researcher write-up follows :-

The pub is said to be 400 years old. There was a large ornate fireplace situated in the main bar of the pub. On our arrival, the downstairs was decorated in Halloween decorations, and it being late there were a few customers in the bar. I found that the pub seemed to be very quiet and still, and I felt very at ease as I entered through the door.

A lot of my background research was based around the ghost of a cavalier. Earlier on in the day I was by chance able to talk to a previous landlady who informed me that she had 'seen' the ghost of a cavalier who she named 'Charlie'. According to her, he was a 'friendly' ghost, and he would often been seen on the first floor of the pub. I was informed that 'Charlie' would also often be seen in one of the main rooms which was at the front of the building, a room that overlooked the main market square. I was informed that the back rooms of the pub many years ago would have been used as staff quarters, and it could be quite possible that the pub was used as a hotel or possibly an inn at stages during its 400 year history, including use by travellers.

I had noticed that whilst I was talking to the previous landlady, and she was relaying her accounts on the Cavalier ghost to me, I had a sharp pain either side of my front temples. This seem to subside when I left her.

The Investigation.

Our arrival at the pub was just after 10pm, the evening was cold and damp - to be expected on Halloween. All was calm... We entered the pub and I was introduced to the landlady who proceeded to show us around the pub. There seemed to be quite a labyrinth of rooms, and I found it a little confusing with the amount of rooms that there were. The rooms that I entered felt cold and often draughty. I felt this more in the corridors, especially outside the bathroom. I felt a shiver go down my spine when I entered the bathroom, as I observed that there was a large mirror on the back wall in the bathroom. The landlady informed us that here she felt the precense of spirits, but also that she did not feel threatened by them. I did not feel at ease in this room, and I felt a cold blast along my left side of my body, focused mainly near my feet, legs and left arm. I really did not want to look in the mirror, and I just had the urge to get out of there, and not stay in that one room for any longer, than I had to. My instincts were telling me to get out of there.

I next placed two trigger objects in the bathroom. The trigger objects were placed in the bath, even as I did this - avoiding looking into the mirror - I had a gut feeling that all was not well in the bathroom, as soon as I walked into the room I again had a cold blast around my feet and legs.

We then proceeded to go up to the next floor, and entered three bedrooms, I noted that the stairs were quite difficult to get up, it felt like I had to crawl up the stairs, to get up to the next level, I noticed there was nothing to hold onto as you went up the stairs.

The first room at the top of the stairs was a smaller size bedroom, which had been turned into a meditation area. This room had a large copper pyramid in it, from the center of which was suspended a quartz crystal. I looked closely at the quartz crystal/rod and I was sure I saw it swing. I observed that the room felt cold, but not cold enough to feel uncomfortable, if anything the corridor felt colder. A trigger object was left on the chair in the room, a feather in this case.

In the middle bedroom, I placed another trigger object. Once again in the hallway leading to the third bedroom, I felt colder, upon entering the third bedroom, the room was very cluttered, cold and a feeling, that perhaps we were not alone in this room.
