EII024 - The Hanged Man - 2

A return visit to the site of our previous investigation, "The Hanged Man"

On 7th and 8th March, Eerie Investigations returned to the scene of this previous investigation, in conjunction with a television crew from the Discovery Channel. The occupants had seen a resurgence of activity since our previous visit and had asked us to return and perform a spirit clearance this time.

The first day of the investigation provided some highly interesting results, with both physical and psychical data. One of Eerie's mediums, Anne, attended to lead the seance and clearance. Anne picked up on large amounts of data which our research later verified to tie in with facts known to the residents. This included earlier uses of the land, and names and dates.

After setting up our equipment, and working with the Discovery crew, we performed baseline readings. No temperature anomolies were detected in advance, and some natural sources of radio and EMF emissions were noted to ensure that they did not skew our data later.

The team then settled down to the seance and spirit clearance. Midway through the clearance Anne and one of the family members reported sensing a cold feeling around them. We had temperature probes in place around each member of the team, and checking the readings from those plus our remote temperature probes showed that there was in fact a 3-4 degree temperature drop around only these two individuals - even though the rest of the room and circle showed a consistent temperature. The area had been previously verified to be well insulated and draught-free.

During the seance Karen performed psychic artistry and drew the faces that she sensed psychicly. At the end of the session, Karen showed the faces to the family member who was within the circle - and the individual immediately said "This is the face that I've seen in the house, that's the spirit". Karen also felt the need to add a seperate lock of hair to this drawing of the spirit but was unsure why.

In the seance, Anne got the names of "Jonathan", "Tom", and later the surname of "Hood" linked to "Tom". She also got many images of being led towards a gallows in the area, of witnessing a hanging, and of a small hut next to the edge of a forest within which "Jonathan" lived, and the name "Swan Lane" and the year 1786 as a date of birth for "Jonathan". Interestingly, during Anne's visions of the hanging she noted that the person being hung, the "Jonathan" had his ponytail cut off as he died. This ties in with Karen's drawing and the hair lock.

Our researchers later determined that there was in fact an English poet called "Thomas Hood" whom lived in the area around the property during the late 18th and early 19th century. Thomas Hood lived in and around the area, and wrote a number of poems which mentioned the roads bordering the property as well as one in which he wrote about witnessing a hanging. We also determined that there is a "Swan Lane" in the area, a small old road which borders the forest land. The timescale that Anne was given for the birth of Jonathan links with the timescale during which Thomas Hood would have been a young adult in the area, and also correlates with a period of history during which highwaymen roamed the area and were often given "summary justice" in the forms of public executions by hanging.

Anne and the team next performed a spirit clearance, and communicated with "Jonathan" psychicly to determine why he was still within the property and had not moved on. He told Anne that he had led a roguish life and had no family, he envied the current occupants of the property and the family life that they shared. For this reason, and because he felt scared to move on for fear of being held accountable for his past crimes, he remained in the property. Anne reassured him that he had nothing to fear, and helped guide him onto the next plane.

After a pause, Karen and Anne then performed a brief space clearance on the property to remove any trace aura emanations.

The family sensed no more activity the next evening and day, but we are monitoring the situation for the future.

This investigation will be screened on the Discovery Channel in the summer of 2006, more information on a screening date will be provided once the schedule has been confirmed.
